Lumos has always been driven by a clear mission: to deliver affordable, clean, and reliable energy to those who need it most across off-grid energy markets. As our footprint continues to grow, so does our understanding that true impact doesn’t come from solar panels alone, but from people, and the tools, knowledge, and systems they’re given to succeed within the renewable energy value chain. Our recent expansion in Nigeria’s Western region wasn’t just about reaching more communities, it marked the beginning of a new operating model for solar distribution networks. Indeed, it was built around professional training, real-time data tools, and a mindset of empowered leadership within Africa’s energy sector. As it was a test that worked, we’re scaling it across every Lumos region in Nigeria.
A New Way of Working Begins in the West
The Western expansion allowed Lumos to build on our existing successes while introducing something new within Nigeria’s solar market. We launched the Lumos Management Academy, our most comprehensive effort yet to equip Partner Development Managers (PDMs) and their teams with everything they need to succeed in clean energy operations.
This wasn’t “just training”, it was a full ecosystem that included live dashboards, targeted mentoring, operational analysis, sales frameworks, and customer engagement strategies designed for solar energy sales and service delivery, all working together in a structured, measurable way. For many participants, it was the first time they had experienced such a thorough and strategic approach to partner capacity building.
PDMs received hands-on coaching in data interpretation, performance tracking, and how to train and lead Associate Partners in the field across decentralised energy systems. Installation simulations, prospecting sessions, role plays, and classroom learning were all integrated to create real behavioural change and practical capability within solar workforce development.
Changing the Way PDMs Think
The feedback from the field has been deeply encouraging across renewable energy leadership roles. Indeed, many PDMs described the experience as transformational, not only in terms of skills, but in how they see themselves as leaders within energy access programmes. For Elohor Oleita, PDM for Ndokwa LGA in Delta State, the impact has been both personal and professional. “The education, resources, and tools I got from Lumos have helped in re-creating, reshaping, and remodeling me,” she said. “It brought a positive impact to the way I work. The Academy is one of the best initiatives.”
Similarly, Simon Oche, PDM for Obio Akpor LGA in Rivers State, shared how the experience reshaped his work within solar partner management. “It’s amazing and really insightful,” he said of the tools and resources provided. “The Academy was really an unforgettable experience. It has helped me work smartly.” These reflections highlight the core of the Lumos approach: when people are given the right tools and clear structures, performance improves, and so does confidence in clean energy leadership.
Results You Can See
In the Western pilot, the State Managers and PDMs oversaw the training and onboarding of the new Partners operating within last-mile solar distribution, the latter of which had a 98% pass rate in final evaluations. More importantly was the business impact where repayment rates improved, sales productivity increased, and PDMs began using enhanced dashboards to lead their teams with precision through data-driven energy operations. The programme quickly became a benchmark for performance and partner development across Africa’s renewable energy ecosystem, not because of luck, but because of structure, support, and strategy.
Now Rolling Out Across All Regions
Due to this success, Lumos is now scaling this model across all regions of Nigeria’s off-grid energy landscape. The systems built and tested in the West, the tools, training, mentoring, and metrics, are becoming the new standard for solar partner enablement. We’re not just growing, we’re growing smarter, and we’re turning learning into leadership, and performance into momentum within sustainable energy businesses.
This Is the Lumos Way
This journey has shown us that impact doesn’t stop with access to power through solar energy solutions. Indeed, it starts with access to potential, which means empowering our people to lead, grow, and thrive across renewable energy careers. With the right structure, the right support, and the right mindset, our Partners aren’t just meeting expectations, they’re exceeding them. As a result, we’re now taking that energy further than ever before across Africa’s clean energy transition.
