In Côte d’Ivoire, access to electricity has improved significantly, with the government reporting a 95% electrification rate nationwide. Yet, for between 75,000 to 90,000 of unofficial farming camps in remote areas, dependable power remains out of reach. With no official plans to connect these communities, daily life often means relying on struggling to charge phones and living without light. Lumos is changing that by providing affordable, clean, and reliable energy, empowering both customers and the employees who bring solar power to their communities. Indeed, this allows children to study after dark, improves community safety by keeping wild animals away at night, and enables families to power small appliances and stay connected. The transformation empowers customers as well as the employees who bring energy to their communities.
These Lumos employees, known as Lumos Territory Managers (TMs), sell solar systems to transform lives. By becoming TMs and a part of Lumos, individuals from a range of backgrounds achieve professional growth and the ability to uplift entire communities.
For Gninassou Y., based in Soubré in the southwest, he began his journey as a commercial agent in 2018. Today, he’s a proud Gold TM. “It’s a source of pride,” he says, “and it gives me financial stability. I can now take care of my family and manage other personal activities.” Jean Baptiste A., also from the southwest in San Pedro, shares a similar story. He also started in 2018 and has worked his way up to Gold TM status. “It brings me joy to see my professional progress and to bring light to people’s lives. I feel more important in society, and I live better now,” he shares.
Lumos TMs bring power and create opportunities for others. Indeed, through their work, they are proving that access to electricity is about more than just light: it’s about independence, opportunity, and a better future for Côte d’Ivoire’s rural communities.
From Daloa, Alexis L. started as a TSA and is now a Bronze TM. He explains, “Being a TM today allows me to earn a good living and invest. I’m able to provide for my small family and keep them out of need.” Cedric S., originally a technician from Sassandra and now a Bronze TM, adds, “This is a new experience that allows me to take care of myself. I help my family and I’ve started new ventures.”
The professional journeys of Lumos TMs come from across the country. Michel L., a Silver TM from Duékoué in the west, began directly as a TM. “My work allows me to support my family,” he says. “It’s a new professional experience for me. Lumos brings me both financial and social security.” In nearby San Pedro, Sebastien G. started as a VCP partner and is now a Silver TM. “It’s satisfying,” he says. “It’s an evolution, a change in living standards and social security.”
With every new TM, every newly connected home, and every business that gains reliable power, Lumos is reshaping the energy landscape in Côte d’Ivoire. Their success is a testament to the power of solar energy, not just as a solution to an infrastructure gap, but as a pathway to empowerment and economic growth.
