In Côte d’Ivoire, access to electricity has improved significantly, with the government reporting a 95% national electrification rate. Yet, for between 75,000 to 90,000 unofficial farming camps in rural Côte d’Ivoire, dependable power remains out of reach. With no official plans to connect these communities, daily life often means relying on struggling to charge phones and living without light. Lumos is changing that by providing off-grid solar energy that is affordable, clean, and reliable, empowering both customers and the employees who bring solar power in Côte d’Ivoire to their communities. Indeed, this allows children to study after dark, improves community safety, and enables families to power small appliances and stay connected through clean energy solutions. The transformation empowers customers as well as the employees who bring energy to their communities.
These Lumos employees, known as Lumos Territory Managers, sell solar home systems to transform lives. By becoming TMs and a part of Lumos, individuals from a range of backgrounds achieve professional development and the ability to uplift entire communities through renewable energy access.
For Gninassou Y., based in Soubré in the southwest of Côte d’Ivoire, he began his journey as a commercial agent in 2018. Today, he’s a proud Gold Territory Manager. “It’s a source of pride,” he says, “and it gives me financial stability. I can now take care of my family and manage other personal activities.” Jean Baptiste A., also from the southwest in San Pedro, shares a similar story. He also started in 2018 and has worked his way up to Gold TM status. “It brings me joy to see my professional growth and to bring light to people’s lives. I feel more important in society, and I live better now,” he shares.
Lumos TMs bring power and create opportunities for others across off-grid communities. Indeed, through their work, they are proving that access to electricity is about more than just light: it’s about independence, opportunity, and a better future for rural communities in Côte d’Ivoire.
From Daloa, Alexis L. started as a TSA and is now a Bronze Territory Manager. He explains, “Being a TM today allows me to earn a good living and invest. I’m able to provide for my small family and keep them out of need.” Cedric S., originally a technician from Sassandra and now a Bronze TM, adds, “This is a new experience that allows me to take care of myself. I help my family and I’ve started new ventures through solar energy jobs.”
The professional journeys of Lumos TMs come from across the country. Michel L., a Silver Territory Manager from Duékoué in the west, began directly as a TM. “My work allows me to support my family,” he says. “It’s a new professional experience for me. Lumos brings me both economic empowerment and social security.” In nearby San Pedro, Sebastien G. started as a VCP partner and is now a Silver TM. “It’s satisfying,” he says. “It’s an evolution, a change in living standards and social security driven by clean energy access.”
With every new TM, every newly connected home, and every business that gains reliable electricity, Lumos is reshaping the energy landscape in Côte d’Ivoire. Their success is a testament to the power of solar energy in Africa, not just as a solution to an infrastructure gap, but as a pathway to economic growth, empowerment, and long-term opportunity.
